INTRODUCING COVRGARD AQUA: ADVANCED MARINE PROTECTION FILM FOR VESSELS AND YACHTS

Whether your vessel is moored between seasons or working hard across open water year-round, the marine environment is one of the most demanding surfaces any protective film will ever face. Saltwater, UV intensity, abrasion, thermal stress – none of them let up.

CovrGard AQUA has been developed specifically for these conditions, taking the protection principles behind one of the most trusted paint protection films in the automotive sector and reformulating them for what the sea does to your hull.

WHAT IS COVRGARD AQUA?

CovrGard AQUA is a Marine Protection Film (MPF) for exterior surfaces, which can be complemented by our Solar Control Window Film for cabin glazing. Together they cover the two areas where marine exposure does the most consistent damage to a yacht or vessel.

Conventional Paint Protection Film (PPF) has long been trusted to preserve high-value car paintwork from road debris, UV and environmental contaminants. Marine surfaces face a different set of problems – continuous saltwater exposure, fender contact, UV at open-water intensity, and the thermal expansion and contraction of large aluminium and steel hull sections – all create stresses that an automotive specification was never designed to absorb. CovrGard AQUA addresses those stresses directly.

AQUA Marine Protection Film: invisible surface protection for hulls and topsides

Gel coat and painted topsides are an ever-present maintenance issue, especially for commercial operators and charter fleet managers. Dock rash, rope abrasion, fender wear and UV exposure degrade the finish steadily and restoration is expensive.

CovrGard AQUA Marine Protection Film bonds across hull sides, bow sections, engine covers, deck surfaces and high-contact areas, forming a barrier that is optically clear and stable under continuous saltwater exposure and high UV. The film is designed to stay bonded and clear on large, curved surfaces without lifting or yellowing over time.

Performance properties:

  • Protection against dock rash, scratches and minor abrasions
  • UV resistance to prevent fading and discolouration of gel coat and painted finishes
  • Saltwater, chemical and corrosion resistant formulation
  • Self-healing technology that repairs light surface scratches at ambient temperature
  • Super-hydrophobic finish that repels water and contaminants
  • Easier to clean, less maintenance time overall
  • Full manufacturer-backed warranty

For operators managing refits and looking to preserve resale value, this has practical economic benefits. A full topside respray is a major cost at any scale, whereas MPF applied at build – or during refit – extends the working life of that paintwork, reduces maintenance frequency and protects asset value across the vessel’s operating life.

Solar Control Window Film: heat, glare and UV management onboard

Long passages and extended time on the water mean sustained sun exposure for everyone aboard. Cabin temperatures climb quickly under direct sun while glare compromises visibility and comfort, and UV accumulates across helm stations, saloons and guest spaces.

CovrGard Solar Control Window Film tackles these problems head-on. It cuts heat build-up in cabin spaces, reduces glare at the helm, and blocks UV without reducing clarity.

Performance properties:

  • Blocks over 99% of harmful UV rays
  • Reduces infrared heat build-up in cabin spaces
  • Cuts glare at helm and in saloon areas
  • Helps maintain cooler interior temperatures during extended sun exposure
  • Reduces demand on air conditioning systems, with potential fuel or battery savings for motor yachts and hybrid vessels
  • Durable and scratch-resistant
  • Crystal-clear optical clarity across service life

For professional users and outfitters specifying vessels for extended cruising or charter use, reduced HVAC demand is another benefit. Cooler cabins with less reliance on climate systems means lower running costs over a season.

CovrGard AQUA: PPF expertise applied to the marine environment

CovrGard AQUA MPF is built on PPF expertise developed across demanding automotive applications. The technology and performance knowledge that made our PPF a standard choice for owners of high-value road vehicles is the basis for AQUA’s marine formulation.

Our product development has focused on understanding where automotive PPF principles transfer directly, and where marine conditions need a different specification: the saltwater chemistry, the UV intensity, the scale of hull surfaces and the thermal cycling that large metal structures go through in open-water conditions. AQUA is the result of working through those differences.

CovrGard is headquartered in the UK with a growing global distribution and installer network. AQUA products carry manufacturer warranties and are available through CovrGard’s professional installer base for new build and refit projects.
